Arjil advises Trescal for the acquisition of the calibration assets of Dowding & Mills in the UK (April 2010) Trescal acquires the calibration assets of Dowding & Mills, the UK-based industry services company. This acquisition strengthens Trescal’s leadership in the UK market with c. 20% market share, whilst consolidating further its European leadership. Arjil acted as exclusive financial adviser to Trescal. With the integration of the five Dowding & Mills laboratories accounting for sales of c. €8m and employing 140 people, Trescal in the UK now comprise a total of eight sites, 17 customers’ antennas and employ c. 350 people reaching total sales of c. £23m. Trescal, European leader in calibration services, provides a broad range of services for the Test and Measurement equipment market. Represented in 11 European countries, Trescal operates in over 50 calibration laboratories and employs more than 1,200 people across Europe. Trescal services 12,000 customers in various sectors such as Defence, Aerospace, Aeronautics, Automotive & Transport, Power Generation & Utilities, Electronics Manufacturing, Communications and Life Sciences. Further to the acquisition of calibration assets from Dowding & Mills, Trescal’s pro forma 2010 budgeted sales will amount to c. €110m. After having advised l’Air Liquide in 2007 for the sale of Trescal to Astorg Partners & the management team, Arjil has actively worked with Trescal and its new shareholders for the implementation of its build-up strategy. After the acquisition of the calibration activity of the QinetiQ group, this transaction is the second build-up advised by Arjil in the UK. This carve out of Dowding & Mills calibration assets enlightens Arjil’s know how in complex and cross border environments.
